PREGNANCY DIARY

Week 4 – 8 Firstly, what I didn’t know was that once you find out you are pregnant you are actually not 1 week; you are 4 weeks pregnant as it counted from the first day of your last period! Bonus! Never underestimate how well you know your own body. I had just arrived home from honeymoon and told my husband I just didn’t feel right and he told me that it was just jet lag and to not be silly. When I even mentioned getting a pregnancy test, he... Read More

Breastfeeding, expressing and helping with feeds at night through the eyes of a new dad…!

I think being a parent is one of the hardest things you do even though it’s also one of the best and most rewarding things.  There’s a lot of pressure to do things ‘right’ and ‘perfectly’ and I know it can be especially hard from new mums learning how to breast feed and express milk too.  It’s not like you can prepare yourself for it and although it’s natural and me and my mates have no issues if Holly needs to breastfeed when we’re out, there are still people out... To breastfeed or not breastfeed…? To express using a breast pump or not…? Just two of the questions I never thought I’d be asking myself…

I started breastfeeding Mya as soon a she was born.  She had her first feed when she was around 50 mins old.  When I was in recovery from my C-section one of the nurses showed me how to get her to latch on. I wouldn’t say the support was amazing in my hospital but when I asked for help I received it.  I was absolutely terrified – from having Mya in my tummy for 9 months to meeting her and then feeding her pretty much straight away was pretty overwhelming.... BOTTLE OR BREAST? THE QUESTION IS, WHICH IS BEST?

BOTTLE OR BREAST, THE QUESTION IS, WHICH IS BEST? Controversial subject or what? I honestly underestimated how passionate both teams were until I was expecting our first born, Hugo and it came to light that it is a very spoken about subject in the world of mothers!

CASH FOR KIDS MISSION CHRISTMAS

Being a family can be tough at the best of times. For those living in poverty it’s unimaginably hard and Christmas is the hardest time of all. 1 in 3 children are living in poverty in the UK, that’s nearly 4 million children at risk of waking up to no presents at all on Christmas day. It’s an awful thought, and for so many families who are stuggling to make ends meet Christmas is a luxury they just can’t afford. Thanks to the charity Cash for Kids and their Mission... Read More

EASY PEASY WEANING

By Natalie Peal Cooking for a family doesn’t need to be complicated and stressful. When my daughter Annabelle was younger, I had a tough time putting her down to cook dinner. She was a baby who wanted to be close to me at all times. To help overcome this predicament, I developed a series of easy 15-20 minute meals. Below you will find three of my favourite recipes from this series; they are all family-friendly and packed full of flavour. You will find even more speedy meals in my 15-20... Read More

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF REFLUX, SILENT REFLUX OR COLIC IN BABIES.

Interestingly there is much written about so-called ‘colic’ in babies and everyone seems to have an opinion on it. I have found many babies are diagnosed as having colic, but this can mean very little in reality as there is no medical definition for the term and it is actually just a non-descriptive term for pain. Colic or Reflux? The Burning Question!!  For example, The Oxford English Dictionary States: colic n. A severe spasmodic abdominal pain. Colic is usually defined as ‘excessive crying in infancy with no known cause’ –... Read More

OVERCOMING REFLUX: HAND IN HAND WITH HARPER

Another day, another distressing reflux story, but one I’m pleased to say we had an incredibly positive outcome with in just four days! A few weeks ago, I had this come through on my online booking form from Harpers mum; “Harper is on infant Gaviscon added to comfort milk (2 sachets) and Infacol) have been solely breastfeeding but in the process of transitioning each feed to bottle. During the day I now give 3 feeds as bottles, using Apatamil comfort formula. I try and be strict during the day to... Read More

CRACKING THE REFLUX CODE: ROCKING THE FOUNDATIONS

For the whole 12 weeks of their baby’s life, he had screamed, cried, fought, scratched, vomited, had hiccups and NEVER slept day or night.  He was walked, rocked in arms, put in a sling – and when I met his parents, they were at total breaking point. They have been so utterly distraught, isolated, helpless and actually told me how they’d felt close to separating…..as after 12, previously blissful years together NOTHING has challenged them or their relationship in such a deeply distressing way. No-one was able to help. Sadly... Read More

AN INTRODUCTION TO BABY LED WEANING

Baby-Led Weaning (BLW) is the process of weaning where you skip past the purée stage of traditional weaning and offer your baby smaller portions of your own food from the age of six months. BLW is focused on your baby experiencing real tastes and textures at the very beginning of their weaning journey. This method also promotes family mealtimes: everyone eating the same delicious food at the same time. This not only cuts down on your preparation time, but also means that you can eat your food at the same... Read More
